A day after Kenyan President William Ruto bowed to public pressure and agreed to withdraw the controversial finance bill that had sparked mass unrest, protesters across the country embarked on planned anti-government demonstrations.Analysts said that although the finance bill was the trigger, the protests are now about widespread dissatisfaction with the government, and protesters in Nairobi told Al Jazeera they want the president to resign.Police clashed with demonstrators in Nairobi, spraying tear gas and using rubber bullets. Protests also took place in Kisumu, Migori, Kisii, Nakuru, and other locations.The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) said it has “credible reports” of the use of live bullets on civilian protesters, “resulting in some deaths”.Local media reported that some protesters in Homa Bay Town were taken to a local hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds.
