The Second Annual Canada-African Union Commission High-Level Dialogue took place on November 7, 2024, in Toronto, underscoring Canada’s commitment to strengthening its partnerships with African nations. Hosted by Canadian ministers Mélanie Joly (Foreign Affairs), Mary Ng (Export Promotion, International Trade, and Economic Development), and Ahmed Hussen (International Development), the event brought together key figures, including Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC).

Key sessions included Minister Ng co-chairing an economic session with AUC Commissioner Albert Muchanga, which aimed to expand Canada-Africa trade and investment. Minister Hussen highlighted Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy, focusing on issues like gender equality, youth skills development, and climate resilience. Additionally, Minister Joly emphasized the importance of multilateral partnerships and Canada’s long-term engagement with African nations, which dates back over 70 years.

The gathering also marked the signing of a new memorandum of understanding, solidifying cooperation on shared goals like inclusive economic growth and international stability.
