The House of representatives has Called on the Federal Government to prioritize the protection of the lives of Nigerians living abroad and leave no stone unturned in pursuit of justice for our compatriots who have suffered injustice and oppression in the hands of foreign nationals.Chairman, House Committee on Diaspora Hon. Tochukwu Orere who move the motion on the floor of the house today, raised concerns of recent reports of unlawful killings, torture, and inhumane treatment of Nigerian citizens living in South Africa especially Mr. Ebuka Nwoko, 43, who was allegedly murdered while in the custody of South African security officials in Northern Cape, South Africa.While expressing profound disappointment and condemnation of these avoidable actions by members of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Hon. Orere reiterated that this is violation of human rights and the rule of law.The house however Mandated the House Committee on Diaspora to investigate the murder of Mr. Ebuka Nwoko in South Africa and other cases of unlawful killings/torture of Nigerians living in Diaspora and report back to the House in four weeks for further legislative action.
